A rare mixed technique Berber rug ascribed to the Zemmour people, located in the Moroccan Middle Atlas, originally used as a saddle cover – an item of great prestige among Berber tribes. The pattern consists of horizontal compartments containing geometric devices typical of this tribe. The plain stripes are woven in warp faced plain weave technique while the geometric motifs are in knotted pile. The reverse side of the weaving shows only flat-weave.
