Commissioned in the mid-1980s by the Vigo Carpet Gallery of London to the Royal School of Needlework, this needlepoint signalled a brief revivalist period in England for needlepoints with elaborate floral patterns at the height of the fashion of English country interiors. The type of stitch employed is similar to that used in the Pontremoli workshop in London during the early part of the 20th century and imparts a particular character to the composition.
