Open field Berber carpets make up a distinct group of weavings, originating from various regions of the Moroccan Middle Atlas and characterised by a plethora of tones of red. The present example is distinguished by a warm purple in a full range of tonal gradations, flanked on each side by a dark narrow border. The chunky weave is typical of the rugs from the M’rirt area, located in the northeastern section of the Middle Atlas.
