A very unusual Berber rug from the Boujad region, located on the foothills of the central High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, distinguished two registers of pattern and chromatic balance: the first half is characterized by a softer palette and by an underlying intention of going very abstract, while in the upper half the colours are much more assertive, as is the pattern. Hand knotted by exclusively using silky Industrial yarns, the ancient modernity of its iconography is quite characteristic of this area as well as of that of the nearby Azilal region. Works such as this piece were almost unknown to the west until recent times and represent the most authentic facet of Berber woven art.
