Felts are among the first woollen structures made by mankind. Some of the earliest we know were found in the kurgans of Central Asia. This tradition continued until recently, although the older examples, like this one, are distinguished by almost a three-dimensional rendition of the pattern. Central felts are undoubtedly imbued with a primitive character which makes them look very modern.
