An unusual wool flat-weave distinguished by an all-over pattern similar to a stylized tiger pelt in purple on an ivory background. This kilim was collected in Turkey a few years ago and it had been reputedly commissioned for a hotel in Istanbul designed in the mid-1950s. It had been woven in Thrace, just across the border into Europe, where there was an affluent community of Turkish weavers.
The decorative possibilities of this beautiful flat-weave are quite apparent to our contemporary eyes.
