An unusual vintage kilim boasts a tiger pelt pattern, featuring a stylized design in purple on an ivory background. A collector acquired this kilim in Turkey a few years ago. According to reports, a hotel in Istanbul commissioned the piece in the mid-1950s. Weavers in Thrace, just across the border into Europe, crafted the kilim. At the time, an affluent community of Turkish weavers thrived in this region. Contemporary eyes can easily appreciate the decorative potential of this beautiful flat-weave.
