A distinct cluster of weavings, inspired to some extent by the urban rugs of Rabat and Mediouna, is attributed to the Arabic tribes inhabiting the plains between Boujad and the Atlantic coast. On this cute small example the weaver attempts at superimposing three motifs, a chequered lozenge flanked above by large stepped diamond and below by an eight-pointed star, incorporating these into the pattern by conceptually carving out elements of the checkerboard substrate. The resulting deconstruction adds a unique fluidity to this miniature composition.
