A fine example of how weavers began to introduce yarn alternatives to the more precious wool in order to highlight certain features, thus making the most of what they had available. Here the striated background is composed of a miscellany of wool, synthetic and recycled cotton, thus providing the ideal substrate on which to layer the three totem-like devices woven entirely with coloured industrial fabrics.
