There is a sub-group of rugs from the Azilal region which are distinguished by a thick wool pile texture. The palette and design are also similar to the present example, which shows a deconstructed arrangement of polychrome squares, gradually taking form as the weaving progresses, and establishing a proper configuration only once the weaver got past the central motif.
