An extremely finely worked belt composed of a sequence of six oval shaped medallions with pendants, brocaded in silk on a plain weave cotton background. Clearly intended as an item of great prestige, it differs in its construction technique from the Moroccan belts we are accustomed seeing from Fez. The design seems to be modelled after 18th Century Ottoman textiles, in particular as it appears on velvet yastiks such as those from Scutari.
