Azilal rugs woven with natural, undyed ivory and brown/black wool constitute the most renowned body of weavings for this area. Their popularity is due perhaps to their aesthetic affinity with Beni Ouarain rugs from the Middle Atlas mountains. This sweet miniature is distinguished by parallel rows of tree-like motifs of strong totemic character. The charming, almost calligraphic quality of the design, coupled with its chromatic simplicity, is what truly sets apart this family of weavings from most other Berber rugs.
