This rare and early Yarkand rug features two niches in a unique yin-yang display. Unlike any other East Turkestan rug, its outstanding palette includes three shades of red, blue, and green, masterfully used by an experienced weaver to impart a translucency similar to medieval glass mosaics. Fellow collectors agree that early East Turkestan weavings are among the hardest to find, and this rug certainly represents the pinnacle of this rare family of rugs.
