An extremely fine pillow case, exquisitely woven in wool with details in silk, decorated by geometric motifs arranged along horizontal compartments. The lower skirt boasts a stunning array of six female figures representing Berber women, the stars of our exhibition. The fact that they are depicted with hands on their hips – just like the elibelinde motif frequently seen on Anatolian kilims – speaks of the universal language at the basis of antique tribal textile art. The outstanding quality of the weave testifies to the immense skill of Berber weavers.
