A complete knotted saddle bag showing all of the characteristic Afshar features, namely a hooked diamond pattern on an indigo blue ground, framed by an ivory border with cartouches, an intricate sumak-woven motif for the closure panels and a monochrome red kilim back, interrupted by a polychrome eye dazzler motif at the bridge. The large rectangular format of each bag is also quite typical for Afshar, and was probably intended for carrying items of the tribal household.
