A rare and unusual Moroccan rug woven in the hooked technique using recycled industrial fibres on a plastic foundation. The directional character of the abstract pattern, which culminates with diamond compartments for placing one’s hands, strongly suggests that it was used as a prayer mat, especially as the small size and very light weight would make it an easily transportable item. A wonderful example of how a weaver can express beauty even through a utilitarian object.
