This very sweet miniature example displays a naive rendition of the niche design or prayer rug pattern. The upper niche, which actually consists of four consecutive niche elements, differs from that on more formal prayer rugs for the child-like simplicity of its drawing, including that of the crudely rendered lamp hanging from the cusp of the niche, all the filler elements as well as the red niche present at the base of the rug, which resembles more the entrance to a cavern.
