A stunning Modernist carpet with an all-over pattern composed of irregular waves in various shades of red, light grey and black on an ivory background. The 1950s were a very creative period for France, both in fashion as well as in design, the two often progressing together. It wouldn’t be rare seeing fashion icons like Pierre Cardin design furnishing textiles. Rugs such as this example testify the post War mood, with its need for joyful colours and for patterns which would deviate completely from the old traditions.
