Influenced by the abstract patterns of Berber weavings from the Middle Atlas called ‘Boujad’, which were avidly collected by many French artists during the colonial period, this rug displays the experimental nature of French carpets after World War II, in its attempt to distance itself from traditional designs while embracing the painterly sensibilities which will define much of the ‘Moderne’ period.
