Claude Loewer, born in Switzerland in 1917, pioneered the translation of abstract painting’s language into textile art. His works grace numerous private and public collections, including the Centre National d’Art Contemporain and the Mobilier National in Paris.

In 1970, the prestigious Atelier Raymond Picaud in Aubusson, France wove ‘Mine Orange’. Galerie Verriere of Lyon commissioned this rug as part of a planned edition of four examples, with this being the first.

The rug bears Claude Loewer’s signature and the monogram of Atelier Raymond Picaud.
