The early carpets of the Art Deco period had the prerogative of proposing a new set of patterns based on re-interpretation of classical western decorative motifs. In this example we see a compartment design typical of French and English needlepoint carpets, containing an eight-pointed star. This type of ornamental spareness will later become one of the most recurrent stylistic features of modernist carpets.
