The antique carpets from the Heriz area which are given the name ‘Serapi’ typically have a very finely knotted lustrous pile and are dyed in a range of natural hues, masterfully blended to create a pleasing and harmonious palette. In this example we see a large light green medallion containing concentric cartouches in coral pink and aqua blue within a soft rust reserve on an ivory field. The refined sobriety of this Serapi makes it a glorious example of one of the most acclaimed families of Persian carpets.
