A refined and elegant weaving, this Persian carpet is distinguished by an allover pattern of scrolling palmettes and leaves impeccably executed in subtle tones on an ivory background. The use of ivory is reserved for the finest and most precious weavings of the Ferahan area. The inscription on the top cartouche (woven in the year 1310 in the town of Bar Farush) is another indication of its preciousness and suggests that it was woven on a special commission.
