The carpets woven by the Anglo-Swiss firm of Ziegler & Co. during the late nineteenth century in the region of Arak are often characterised by classic Persian patterns rendered in highly refined colours, where the wool yarns are masterfully dyed so to create an almost translucent effect. In this example, the allover pattern of large palmettes and arabesques is executed with that refined stylisation that distinguishes real Ziegler carpets. The perfect harmony between palette and design is the reason why Ziegler carpets are one of the most highly demanded typologies of Persian carpets and have historically been employed in the most prestigious Western interiors.
