This gorgeous antique Yarkand rug is part of the rugs of east Turkestan – called Khotan, Yarkand, Kashgar or Samarkand – have always represented the rarest and most coveted weavings among interior designers and collectors. Being in perfect balance between curvilinear and geometric patterns, they show a unique iconography resulting from both the Chinese and the Indian tradition. A bold colouration distinguishes the earlier examples, while the later pieces, like the one presented here, are characterised by a refined, subdued palette.
