A very graphic tribal jajim wool flatweave composed of two joined panels each containing an array of polychrome vertical stripes in a variety of natural colours. The result is a mirror image pattern, the central compartment being a twice as wide open field. What makes this example rather unique is the richness of the individual colours, obtained from natural dyes, as well the generous width of the vertical stripes. Furthermore, the quality of the individual dyes, which include a highly saturated saffron yellow and a clear coral red, are indicative of an early vintage. The piece is in pristine condition. The resulting visual effect is highly abstract, ancient yet contemporary.
