The minimalist effect achieved by this Chinese carpet is very much favoured by decorators outfitting many of today’s most stylish interiors. The field is decorated by a subtle tone on tone pattern, reminding us of the most sophisticated monochrome ivory porcelain of the Kangxi period. The silky wool is indicative of the finest Peking carpets of the first decade of the twentieth century, marking the end of the Qing dynasty, a period where the Chinese aesthetics favoured simpler forms in all of its arts.
