The subtly changing sky-blue background of this fascinating carpet, obtained by means of a number of abrashes, creates the impression of a sea on which floats a sun-like lozenge, spangled by polychrome rosettes. The refined primitivism of certain carpet typologies from northwest Persia is often the result of a fusion between the abstract tribal tradition and the more cultured one derived from the sophisticated urban ateliers.
