This antique Karabagh rug in the architectural style of St. Petersburg was the source for many European-influenced patterns woven in both the Ukraine and the Caucasus. The present rug displays a stylised botanical pattern inspired by the late Rococo Revival style, much favoured by the Russian aristocracy. Patterns were sometimes taken from delicate European fabrics, adopting their unusual palette, creating rugs of noble, timeless taste.
