A fine antique Bijar carpet, woven on a wool foundation, distinguished by a unique teal green background and decorated by an infinite repeat of the so-called bid majnun (weeping willow) pattern, which is a glorious Persianate design derived 17th century Tree carpets of the Safavid period. The soft rust colour which defines the motifs counterbalances perfectly the background, resulting in a chromatic symphony of rare elegance and beauty. Certainly, amount the greatest example of this type I have ever had the pleasure of handling.
