Rugs of this type were commissioned by the Armenian-British Benlian company, which had a workshop active in Tabriz during the first half of the 20th Century specialising in carpets based on classical Persianate patterns. The medallion design surrounded by scrolling palmettes on an ivory background is one that was always quite in demand.
