Unconventional, visionary, willful: Jan Kath can be this and more.
Jan Kath is one of the world’s most sought-after rug designers. He deliberately breaks with conventional styles and abandons strict design rules. He famously translates the iconography of classical rugs into a modern matrix, mixing the minimalist zeitgeist with oriental opulence, creating a signature style that has distinguished his brand and made it a leader in contemporary rug art.
The ethos behind Kath’s creations are simple: craftsmanship and preservation. His vision is to conserve ancient techniques through deliberate movement, unfettered by the modern-day mass-production mindset.
‘Islands of well-being in every home’ is how he describes his hand-knotted carpets.
His creations have long been known outside of the interior scene and are shown in cutting-edge, artistic contexts such as Art Biennale Beijing, Bangkok Art Biennale, Art Museum Riga Bourse as well as other prestigious venues.
During the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2023, Jan Kath will be exhibiting both at the Fiera Rho (Hall 10, E 25) as well as in the heart of Milan at his long-time representative Alberto Levi Gallery.
