A very unusual Finnish Rya, typically rendered with a long shaggy pile, yet distinguished by the fact that it is knotted by hand instead of being machine made. In creating a pattern of decidedly abstract pictorial character, the weaver employed all of her skills in mixing different shades of coloured wool to obtain the visual effect of freehand brushstrokes. The fact that weavings such as these are not signed unfortunately means that the textile artist will forever go unrecognised.
