This outstanding vintage Beni Ouarain rug displays beautifully muted shades ranging from cloud white to sandy cream. Soft black or dark brown geometric patterns and lines adorn the rug, often creating asymmetrical and mismatched designs that add to its charm.
Seventeen tribes comprise the Beni Ouarain confederation, inhabiting the high mountain region of the northeastern Middle Atlas. Their rugs differ from other Berber weavings as weavers use exclusively ivory backgrounds and decorate them with abstract geometric motifs of undyed natural wool. The high quality of materials, spontaneous designs, and strong ethnic-minimal feel all contribute to these carpets’ prominence in contemporary interior design. Beni Ouarain carpets typically measure approximately 400 cm (13 feet) by 200 cm (6.5 feet). We rarely find them in sizes more adaptable to today’s Western interiors, such as in this case.
