The Berber carpets of the Rehamna plain around Marrakesh are often distinguished by their minimalist character. This stunning example is conceived around two colours (blue and red), working in reverse for border and field. The asymmetry of the pattern is one of the most charming elements of Berber weaving, imbuing the carpet with a spontaneity which would otherwise look rigid and mechanical.
