Janka Splashed is part of the opulent collection ‘From Russia with Love’ by Jan Kath.

Magnificent roses and lavish floral wreaths form the basic pattern of the carpet. The petaled motifs are reminiscent of the traditional shawls and headscarves still worn until this day by old women in rural areas.

This collection was crafted using the best quality Tibetan highland wool and Chinese silk, dyed in vibrant colours, making each end-product a distinct and emotionally powerful work of art.  Therefore these rugs define the character of the room in which they are placed and create a focal point. They satisfy our need to surround ourselves with elements of nature and its palette, allowing us to bring a curated dose of pastoral colour to our interiors.

Jan Kath studies the motifs of antique rugs and reworks them, introducing elements with a modern and minimalist design. It is a tribute to traditional rugs. Kath draws inspiration from ancient patterns and makes tradition flourish again. He adds a modern element. By eroding the surface of the rugs to underline the value of these ancient models, a value that comes from their ability to be handed down over the centuries. The process of erasing tradition is also used in the magnificent Bessarabian collection. The traditional floral motifs are damaged in some places. The result is a collection of rugs with a strong nostalgic and dreamy streak. This is what characterises all of Kath’s works, the careful care in the realisation and the use of ancient procedures that make it possible to obtain high-quality carpets.

In this way, Kath manages to revive the true tradition of carpets.
