Among the weavings of central Asia, ikat textiles best express the quality and purity of colour as well as the magic of abstract forms. The rare examples woven in silk velvet were very expensive and difficult to manufacture, and were destined to high ranking clients. Here we see a quite unusual design composed of three horizontally arranged purple abstract zig zag motifs set against a glowing yellow background.
Conserved on a cotton backing and mounted on a wooden stretcher
