Antique Bidjars are among the most refined weavings from the Near East, as they are in perfect balance between the classical botanical design tradition and the geometric renditions characteristic of the textile art tradition of Azerbaijan. Here the infinite repeat pattern of small stylised leafs known as the ‘herati’ design is embellished by a small central element and framed by a floral border inspired by European carpets, which were much in vogue during the late nineteenth century.
The soft palette is distinguished by an aqua blue-green background, punctuated by touches of copper and blush pink shades. A truly remarkable weaving of great sturdiness, ideal for under dining tables or for areas of intense traffic.
