This particular motif is characteristic of a rare type of Shirvan rug, originating from the northeastern region of the Transcaucasus, close to the Caspian sea. The muted palette of this fine example is particularly in want for decorating purposes, as it offers an elegant two-tone tonality which lends itself well when designing refined antique interiors. Rugs of this type have always been appreciated in Europe because of its fabric-like texture.
