This elegant Qarabagh long rug belongs to a rare subgroup of early rugs from the Qarabagh area ornated by floral motifs inspired by Bessarabian and Ukrainian flatweaves and commissioned by the Russian aristocracy to decorate their palaces in Western styles, which was particularly fashionable in the early part of the nineteenth century. Today these rugs are well appreciated for their noble yet understated qualities, so subtlely permeated with an old world feeling. This elegant runner belongs to a rare subgroup of early rugs from the Qarabagh area ornated by floral motifs inspired by Bessarabian and Ukrainian flatweaves and commissioned by the Russian aristocracy to decorate their palaces in Western styles, which was particularly fashionable in the early part of the nineteenth century.
