A very graphic tribal Kilim composed of two joined panels each containing an array of polychrome vertical stripes of various widths. The result is a wool flat-weave with a mirror image pattern having a central stripe that is considerably wider than the others. What makes this example rather unique is the richness of the individual colors, obtained from natural dyes, as well the generous width of the vertical stripes. Furthermore, the quality of the individual dyes, which include a wonderful indigo blue and a clear coral red, are indicative of an early vintage. The resulting visual effect is highly abstract and reminiscent more of Western contemporary art rather than Middle Eastern tribal art.
