A finely woven Anatolian kilim, originating from the eastern region of Turkey between the areas of Sivas and Malatya. It’s distinguished by a geometric pattern composed of three square compartments layered over a polychrome background of natural colours, and embellished by motifs which can be traced back to the Neolithic cult of the Mother Goddess, which had its epicenter in the rediscovered town of Catal Huyuk, located at a short distance from where this kilim was woven. The impeccable condition of this antique flat-weave, which had been conserved for decades in a private Italian collection, endows it with an authenticity that is rarely encountered. A truly outstanding piece of woven tribal art that can be used both as a wall hanging as well as a floor covering.
