A finely woven central Anatolian kilim distinguished by a repeat pattern of three parallel and offset rows of concentric hooked diamonds, creating a sort of island which contrasts against the white background, which is richly embellished by hooked devices. These hooks derive from the stylisation of the bird-head motif, which appears on textiles in the form of confronting elements since antiquity. Kilims represent mankind’s earliest form of weaving, and are often the repository of an archaic iconography.
