Finely hand knotted employing the best quality Tibetan highland wool, this exceptional khaden was commissioned as a sitting rug for a high ranked Tibetan Lama for monastic use. The unusual pattern is composed of an infinite repeat of parallel and offset rows of ‘Shou’ ideograms, symbols of Longevity, alternated to roundels depicting a centripetal motif made of three inward pointing leafs. The monastic orange background contrasts very efficiently with the dark indigo blue of the composition.
A very rare and beautiful antique Tibetan rug in pristine condition.
