A beautiful antique wool flat-weave from the Shahsavan tribe located in the southern Caucasus. Distinguished by a sparse decoration composed by a totemic motif, which transverses the central axis of the composition with a sequence of diamond-shaped geometric devices. Motifs such as these represent the ancient language of tribal people, and are the result of an age old tradition of transmitting specific patterns from mother to daughter. This particular flat-weave is characterised by a very strong texture, making it ideal as a floor rug also for highly trafficked areas. The colours are all natural and are obtained from vegetable sources. A great example of woven tribal art which is both collectible as well as decorative, since its minimalist decor can work quite ideally with contemporary modernist interiors.
